About Wacky Walls

Original sculptural surfaces. Historic automotive heritage. Permanent provenance.

The Story

Wacky Walls was founded by Lee Duke, a British sculptural artist with a passion for creating original works that cannot be repeated.

Every Wacky Walls surface is sculpted entirely by hand before being finished using professional automotive paint systems. Rather than creating editions or reproductions, each artwork exists only once and is permanently paired with a historic automotive colour designation.

For many years I was drawn to original art, design and craftsmanship. I wanted to create work that would do more than simply occupy a wall. My ambition was to create sculptural surfaces that transform a space, command attention and become lasting conversation pieces—works that people remember long after they first encounter them.

From the very beginning, I knew every artwork had to remain entirely original. That commitment became an obsession. For years, I dedicated almost every spare hour outside of work to experimenting with materials, sculptural forms, texture, light and automotive finishes, relentlessly pursuing a visual language that felt unmistakably my own. Every failed experiment became another lesson. Every new surface brought me closer to the vision I was chasing.

Along that journey, I encountered a philosophy that profoundly changed the way I thought about originality, permanence and artistic purpose.

Through conversations with Jack Armstrong, an artist whose thinking profoundly influenced my own, my perspective evolved in ways I never expected. His generosity, honesty and willingness to share his experience gave me the confidence to pursue my own vision with greater conviction. For that, I will always remain deeply grateful.

Those conversations helped shape the philosophy that became one of the foundations of Wacky Walls, encouraging me to think beyond simply creating objects and towards creating works with identity, permanence and legacy.

Today, every sculpture I create represents hundreds of hours of experimentation, craftsmanship and refinement. Each one is created entirely by hand, finished using professional automotive paint systems and permanently paired with a historic automotive colour designation.

Every completed work becomes part of the Wacky Walls Designation Register—a permanent archive where each historic designation is assigned once and retired forever. This commitment ensures that every sculpture possesses not only originality, but its own lasting identity, provenance and place within the collection.

Philosophy

Built to Last

Wacky Walls is not about decoration. It is about originality, permanence, and provenance. Every completed artwork becomes part of a growing permanent archive, preserving its title, designation, historical reference, dimensions, materials, and provenance for future generations.

Principles

Original

Every sculpture begins as a blank surface and is sculpted entirely by hand. No moulds, digital duplication or automated production methods are used. Every texture is unique to that individual work.

One Artwork

Each sculpture exists only once. There are no editions, reproductions or alternative versions. Once completed, the work remains unique for its lifetime.

One Designation

Every completed artwork receives a historic automotive colour designation permanently recorded within the Wacky Walls Designation Register. That designation forms part of the artwork's identity and provenance.

Forever

Once assigned, a designation is permanently retired within the Wacky Walls Designation Register. It will never be used again on another artwork, ensuring every sculpture remains historically unique forever.

Looking Forward

Looking Forward

Wacky Walls is a long-term body of work rather than a collection of individual sculptures. Every completed artwork expands the Designation Register and contributes to a permanent archive of original sculptural surfaces linked to historic automotive heritage.

My ambition is to build a legacy of original works that collectors and future generations can trace back to a single artist, a single designation and a single moment in time. Every artwork carries its own permanent identity, ensuring that its story can never be repeated.
