WW-2026-DB180

DB180 — Silver-Grau Metallic

The first Wacky Walls designation. The one that started everything.

Legacy was not conceived as a collectible. It was conceived as a question — what happens when a historic automotive colour is translated into a permanent sculptural surface? The answer became the foundation of Designationism.

About the Work

A surface that holds a colour's history.

A colour beyond its time. Some things become priceless because of what they are. Others, because of what they represent. LEGACY is a sculptural expression of automotive heritage, transforming a historic colour into an original work of contemporary art. Created in Jesmonite, its sculpted surface carries the tonal character of DB180 — Silver-Grau Metallic, a colour associated with Mercedes-Benz heritage and the extraordinary silver-car era. Its story evokes the legendary 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé, one of only two examples built, which achieved a record-breaking €135 million sale in 2022.

Yet LEGACY is not a representation of the car. It is an exploration of the colour itself — its character, its history and its relationship with light, depth and form. Removed from its automotive origins, silver becomes the subject of a new artistic identity. At the heart of the work lies Designationism, the Wacky Walls philosophy that permanently unites an original sculpture with a single historic automotive colour designation. Once assigned, that designation is retired forever. LEGACY established the beginning of this philosophy: the first permanent union of colour, sculpture and designation in the Wacky Walls collection. Its identity is recorded in the Wacky Walls Designation Register as WW-2026DB18001. The artwork has been acquired by a private collector, and its designation will never be repeated.

The car belongs to history. The colour carries its memory. The artwork gives that memory a life of its own.
